First Marconi Rescue 1899

The first use of ship to shore radio was from the East Goodwin lightship.
On March 17th 1899, the German ship Elbe went aground on the Goodwin Sands, and the wireless link from the lightship to the South Foreland lighthouse at Dover, was used to summon help.
The Marconi aerial can be seen suspended from the spar of the lightship, which is in the background of this linoprint.

Unframed original linoprint
Print size: 28x28cm
Edition size: 30
Signed: N Vowls
